Resource Efficiency Action Plan (REAP)
REAPs have been developed to assist the supply chain in managing material efficiency from raw material extraction through to the demolition/deconstruction of buildings, and identifying and creating an actionable strategy for reducing waste and improving resource efficiency. This is a tripartite industry led initiative by the ready-mixed concrete, clay bricks and block, as well as precast concrete industries. Although the ready-mixed concrete REAP will not be available until later this year it was launched along with the other materials on 8 October 2013 at a Parliamentary reception. A copy of the launch document REAPs Heavyweight Material Actions is available for download.
Emma Hines, Chair of the Ready-Mixed Concrete Resource Efficiency Action Plan and Sustainable Construction Manager for Lafarge Tarmac said “We are delighted that the work of the REAP projects has both underpinned the existing Concrete Industry Sustainable Construction Strategy and also provided the construction industry with a range of actions that will improve material efficiency, improve process, service to clients as well as saving time and cost.” A view endorsed by Andrew Spencer the Chairman of the Sustainable Concrete Forum.
The launch of the REAPs coincides with the publication of the concrete industry’s 6th Annual Performance Report which reports on data collected across a range of holistic indicators and provides the spring board for new commitments and targets set by and for the Industry looking toward 2020 and beyond. |
